In many countries, privatisation of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) remains a popular policy tool for debt-burdened governments to quickly raise large amounts of revenue. Often, however, workers at state-owned enterprises oppose privatisation, fearing it will lead to layoffs and lower wages.
