Director of Technical Team, IDinsight
Marc Shotland is the Director of the Technical Team at IDinsight, based in the US.
Marc leads the Technical Team whose role it is to ensure that IDinsight upholds the highest-quality research standards, develops top-notch evaluation infrastructure, and builds evaluation capacity--both internally and externally. Marc's research focuses on primary and secondary-school education, monitoring and evaluation systems, and scaling up effective interventions. Marc brings over 16 years of experience implementing impact evaluations of development programs and teaching others how to do so as well. At IDinsight, Marc has overseen the doubling of the Tech Team, and development of policies and systems that ensure IDinsight follows the highest standards of ethcial research and research transparency.
Prior to joining IDinsight, Marc was the Director of Research and Training at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, where he developed much of the organization's research infrastructure and training content on impact evaluations. He built J-PAL's international capacity building team, which have directly trained tens of thousands of participants of on impact evaluation. He also developed and produced the online course, Designing and Running Randomized Evaluations (JPAL102x), as part of the MIT’s Department of Economics’ MicroMasters credential in Data, Economics, and Development Policy, including content on Evaluation design, measurement, data collection, data management, data security, research transparency and project management.
Marc holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Williams College and a Master in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
