Gaston Ampe Tumuhimbise

Senior Lecturer, Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, Makerere University

Gaston Ampe Tumuhimbise is a senior Lecturer in the Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University.  He is also the Country Director of the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) where he is deeply involved in poverty eradication programs. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from Sokoine University of Agriculture in 1999 and an MSc from the University of Nottingham in 2003. He later on obtained a PhD in Food Science from Makerere University. Gaston also holds an MBA from Makerere University. He is a highly qualified Food and Nutrition Scientist engaged in teaching, research and community outreach with excellent working knowledge of East Africa region. He has lead robust teams in developing successful food products as well establishment of small scale food value addition enterprises. Gaston’s research interests are majorly in: food product development, establishment of food value addition enterprises, ProVitamin A research, food fortification and community nutrition and has published over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals.  He has carried out assignements for various international organizations including; World Food Program (WFP), UNICEF, WHO, USAID, AU Commission among others.
