Tackling youth unemployment
Youth unemployment is a major problem across the developing world. In a randomised experiment comparing two of the main ways to transition the young into employment, i.e. apprenticeships and vocational training programmes, Robin Burgess finds that while both programmes raised employment among youth in Uganda, the vocationally trained workers found jobs more quickly due to the fact that they had certified skills.
