Tommaso Sonno is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna. He is also affiliated with the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics and serves as Vice Director of the PNRR Lab at SDA Bocconi. His research interests lie at the intersection of political economy, international economics, and development economics. He studies how globalisation influences social and environmental outcomes in developing countries. In this context, his work pays particular attention to the role of multinational enterprises, religious institutions, and large-scale land investments. He also investigates the rise of populism and its economic foundations, as well as the structure and strategic behaviour of business groups worldwide.
