Economist, Behavioural Consumer Finance Unit, Central Bank of Ireland
Danish Us-Salam is an Economist in the Behavioural Consumer Finance Unit at the Central Bank of Ireland. He received his MSc in Economics from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi in 2015, and his PhD in Economics from Trinity College Dublin in 2023. He began his career working on anti-poverty and education programs across East and West Africa, including asset transfer initiatives in post-conflict regions, school monitoring schemes designed to boost educational outcomes, and high-school entrepreneurship programs aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills among youth. More recently, his work at the Central Bank of Ireland involves designing experimental interventions to enhance consumer protection. This includes testing approaches to improve risk comprehension surrounding crypto assets and strategies to mitigate online financial fraud. He is currently interested in testing behavioural nudges to enhance financial decision-making, particularly in contexts involving high uncertainty and digital financial products.

Can group therapy improve mental health among adolescent girls in Uganda?
A group therapy programme only reduced depression rates among adolescent girls in Uganda in the short-term. Adding a cash transfer to the programme backfired, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and associated stressors.
