Anita McGahan

Anita McGahan is a University Professor, George E. Connell Chair, Professor of Strategic Management, and Vice Chair of Massey College at the University of Toronto. She is past President of the Academy of Management, a former member of the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Opening Governance, and a long-time Senior Institute Associate at Harvard’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness. Her research is focused on private entrepreneurship in the public interest. She has written on industry change, sustainable competitive advantage and the establishment of new fields. An area of particular interest is global health and the diffusion of knowledge across international boundaries.

Electronic medical records save lives
The implementation of an electronic medical records (EMR) system in Malawi’s HIV clinics has saved thousands of lives by improving clinic efficiency. EMRs help clinic staff trace lapsed patients and manage larger patient volumes.
