Biniam Bedasso

Biniam Bedasso is a Research Fellow with the global education and child well-being team at CGD. He has an eclectic research and policy analysis background spanning the economics of education, political economy, migration and public finance. Prior to joining CGD, Bedasso worked for the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative, Economic Research Southern Africa, Policy Studies Institute (Ethiopia) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa. He was also a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University and the University of Oxford. Bedasso’s research has appeared in various peer-reviewed journals across the fields of economics, political science and development studies. His paper on the political economy of institutions in Kenya has been awarded the African Author prize by African Affairs/Royal African Society. He holds a PhD in Development Economics from Maastricht University.

Evidence shows they deliver large long-term benefits for children and society, with returns that far outweigh the cost of providing them.
