Ashley Pople

Economist, United Nations OCHA

Ashley Pople is an economist in the Humanitarian Financing Strategy and Analysis Unit at the United Nations OCHA. She recently completed her PhD in Economics at the University of Oxford. She is affiliated with the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) and the Mind & Behaviour Research Group.

Her research interests lie in labour, development and environmental economics. Her current research focuses on how best to support households in anticipation of climate disasters and the role of labour market policies in promoting conservation. She has also designed and led field experiments on labour market and behavioural interventions.

She has previously consulted for the Centre for Disaster Protection. She obtained a MSc in Economics for Development at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and a BCom Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Honours in Economics from the University of Cape Town.
