Matt Lowe is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, a CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar for 2023-25, and a J-PAL faculty affiliate. He received his PhD in Economics from MIT in 2018. His current research explores intergroup relations in India, the health and economic effects of psychedelics, and the causes and consequences of religious change.

Can contact between groups reduce prejudice?
New experimental evidence suggests that intergroup contact does reduce prejudice, but the effects are smaller and less transformative than earlier research suggested, highlighting the need for more rigorous evidence and better-designed interventions to understand what actually works.
