Yatang LIN is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She earned her PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research is in the field of Urban Economics, Environmental Economics, and Development Economics. Her research focuses on the economic and environmental impacts of infrastructure and environmental and social challenges in cities.

How new monitoring systems shaped China’s war on air pollution

The advanced air quality monitoring system in China has led to improvements in local air quality, but also prompted local governments to strategically prioritise areas near the monitors in order to meet pollution control targets. This localised response poses a new challenge for enforcement and interpreting pollution readings from ground monitors.
