Clémence Pougué Biyong is a development economist whose research focuses on women’s economic empowerment. As a Research Analyst at the World Bank’s Africa Gender Innovation Lab, she designs and implements impact evaluations that generate policy-relevant evidence on how innovative interventions can expand opportunities for women in low-income settings. Her work also examines Africa’s structural transformation - particularly the opportunities available to adolescent girls and shifts in value chains and labour markets - and how these dynamics interact with legal and institutional reforms to shape women’s economic outcomes.

Before joining the World Bank, she worked with the OECD and the Mind and Behaviour Research Group at the University of Oxford. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and a Master’s degree in Law from the École Normale Supérieure.
