Hyuncheol Bryant Kim

Hyuncheol Bryant Kim is an Associate Professor at the College of Medicine, Yonsei University, as well as in the Economics Department at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on the causal impacts of policy interventions in the health and education sectors through large-scale data analysis and social experiments. As a former doctor, he witnessed firsthand the reality that people in low socioeconomic status suffer more and die earlier, and that health inequality is a social and economic problem. He has analyzed various policies in countries such as Malawi, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, the Philippines, Bhutan, and Hong Kong, in addition to South Korea. Recently, he authored "The Moment Economics is Needed (2023)," which describes how economics can be beneficial to the world. He holds an MD from Yonsei University and an MPH from Seoul National University, both in Korea, as well as a PhD in Economics from Columbia University in the USA. His research has been published in leading journals such as Science, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Health Economics, and other international journals.
