Nataliia Zaika

Nataliia Zaika is a Deputy Director of the Institute for Behavioral Studies at American University Kyiv (Ukraine) and an MSc Behavioural Science student at London School of Economics (2025/26). Her research focuses on conflict-related displacement and mobility decisions in wartime Ukraine, combining behavioral science with survey-based research and experimental methods. Since 2022, she has contributed to research projects on Ukrainian refugees’ return intentions, civilian evacuation behavior and policy-relevant nudges to leave dangerous areas, and women’s motivations to stay in Ukraine despite insecurity. In addition to academic papers, she produces research-based policy reports and media contributions that translate empirical findings for policy audiences and the general public. She has published papers on displacement-related topics in academic outlets, including The Economic Journal (2025) and Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics (2025), and has produced several policy reports on displacement as well as attitudes to mental health support and help-seeking behaviour.
