Volodymyr Vakhitov

Dr. Volodymyr Vakhitov (Ph.D. 2008, U. of KY, Economics) is a Ukrainian economist. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Institute for Behavioral Studies at American University in Kyiv, Ukraine, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Zentrum für Osteuropa- und internationale Studien in Berlin. His major areas of specialization are microeconometrics of survey data, behavioral analysis, industrial organization, and exploratory spatial data analysis. Since 2020, Volodymyr has been analyzing human behavior in the context of extreme circumstances (the COVID pandemic and war). In recent years, he has been studying forced displacement in wartime (refugees and IDPs' movements, willingness to evacuate or stay in the endangered zones), as well as the mental state of Ukrainians during wartime. Besides, Dr. Vakhitov was actively engaged in policy work, consulting, and teaching for Ukrainian ministries and private companies, and in participating in science-related national committees and large infrastructure grant projects.
