Pinghan Liang is Professor in the School of Government, Sun Yat-Sen University. He has also held visiting positions at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and St. Antony's College, University of Oxford. His research covers political economy, behavioural and experimental economics, and the societal impact of digital technology. His works appear in the Economic Journal, Journal of Development Economics, Games and Economic Behavior, World Development, Economic Development and Cultural Change, and other journals. His research is funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and has been cited by the UN-sponsored World Happiness Report 2025, the Asian Development Policy Report 2025, South China Morning Post, China Newsweek, and others. He serves as Editor of Asia & the Pacific Policy Studies, and as an editorial board member of Humanities and Social Sciences Communications.
