Colette Salemi is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. She holds a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. A development and environmental microeconomist, Colette's applied research agenda includes a strong focus on forced displacement and refugee encampment. Topics of interest include: the general equilibrium effects of refugee camp establishment, encampment and refugee welfare, the formation of attitudes towards refugees, costs and benefits of encampment hosting modalities, and climate-induced displacement.

How do labour market fears shape attitudes toward refugees?
Evidence from Uganda and Ethiopia suggests that host prejudice against refugees increases when refugees are perceived as direct job competitors, but not necessarily when actual competition exists.
